Not-for profit and Pro Bono - Our contribution to society

Not-for profit and Pro Bono

For Liedekerke, contributing to the development of the wider community is as much a pleasure as a duty.

Many of our lawyers use their experience and legal acumen to actively support non-profit organisations promoting the greater good. Not only do they give free legal advice but many of them invest their personal time, funds and efforts.

Through our various pro bono programme, Liedekerke promotes equal justice for organisations and individuals who might not otherwise have access to legal aid.

As a firm, Liedekerke is also actively involved in a variety of socio-cultural projects.

Liedekerke was pleased and honored to provide Pro Bono legal support to the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer games. These « Games of the Heart » have been taken place in Antwerp from 9 to 20 September 2014. During eight days of competition, the athletes have competed in 10 sports at five locations across Antwerp. The staging of the Games provided a lasting legacy of inclusion and acceptance of people with intellectual disabilities in Belgium and went towards breaking down barriers and taboos that can exist around the social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

We are also actively involved in the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, supporting the world's leading social entrepreneurs with critical legal services and know-how. The Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation is a non-profit affiliate of Lex Mundi, the world’s leading network of independent law firms. With the help of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, world ready lawyers from our global network of 160 premier member firms are empowering dedicated entrepreneurs to bring high-impact, sustainable social change to lives and communities.

Liedekerke supports APOPO, a non-profit organisation that trains giant African pouched rats to use their keen sense of smell for humanitarian purposes - such as land mine detection and clearance as well as tuberculosis (TB) detection. APOPO is a Belgian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), with headquarters in Tanzania and operations in Mozambique, Thailand, Angola and Cambodia.
