Pro Bono Week: meet APOPO

Related Lawyer(s)

This week we are celebrating Pro Bono Week, which takes place from 2 to 6 November 2020, by highlighting APOPO, one of the non-profit organisations we provide pro bono services to. In these uncertain and unprecedented times, pro bono legal help has never been more important.

APOPO is a social enterprise that saves lives through the deployment of detection rats technology. It researches, develops, and implements animal detection technology for humanitarian purposes such as demining and tuberculosis detection. With roots in Belgium and headquarters in Tanzania, where the African giant pouched rats are trained, the foundation has Mine Action programs in Angola, Cambodia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and Tuberculosis Detection teams in Ethiopia, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Christel Van den Eynden, Corporate partner at Liedekerke, coordinates APOPO’s requests for pro bono legal assistance and secures assistance for them by various Lex Mundi firms throughout the world via and with the help of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation. By being actively involved in the foundation, we are empowering dedicated entrepreneurs to bring high-impact, sustainable social change to lives and communities. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Christel should you have any questions.
