After four long years of preparation and debate, the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) was finally approved by the EU Parliament in April 2016. As of 25 May 2018 the new data protection standards set by the GDPR will be fully enforceable and effective. Any entity failing to meet these GDPR standards will face heavy fines.
At the alumni event hosted today at Vlerick Business School, Dorien Taeymans, an IP/IT associate, and our client, DP World Antwerp’s Chief Information and Innovation Officer, Mr. Patrick Putman, will discuss the practical aspects and challenges that companies encounter in GDPR compliance exercises, in a presentation entitled “GDPR: what’s in an abbreviation”.
Starting with Patrick’s testimony regarding the raising of awareness around the GDPR within the company, the two speakers will talk through the three different phases of the GDPR Compliance Project performed by Liedekerke at DP World Antwerp, the (practical) hurdles along the way, to conclude with some practical tips & tricks of the trade.
