The lawyers within our Fraud and Compliance practice provide assistance in the vast domain of corporate criminal law. They help companies with risk management as well.

Hence, the team focuses on criminal law in the context of business activities. They represent clients before the courts in criminal litigation and also offer assistance in a wide range of areas, such as: insider trading and market abuse, compliance policies, internal investigations, tax fraud and negotiations with the tax authorities, anti-money laundering, administrative procedures before the FSMA, public and private corruption, bankruptcy offences, auditing regulations, criminal offences against social security and employment legislation, breach of environmental or health and safety regulations, improper accounting practices and other cases of criminally sanctioned conduct by companies and/or their managers.

Experience highlights:

  • Acting as stand-by for companies in case of a dawn-raid or other inspection.
  • Giving a tailor-made presentation to the plant managers of a large company in the food industry explaining their criminal liability risk and that of the company in respect of both labour law (including health and safety), environmental law and specific food regulation (traceability, etc.).
  • Filing a criminal complaint on behalf of a multinational tax consultancy company for abuse of its company name in a file involving phishing.

  • Assisting a foreign financial company in implementing a policy with respect to the prevention of mechanisms whose purpose is to facilitate tax fraud by Belgian taxpayers.
  • Assisting in criminal and civil proceedings in a major bankruptcy case.
  • Assisting in a major criminal tax litigation raising the question of evidence used by the prosecution to support indictments of tax fraud and forgery.
  • Negotiating with the Public Prosecutor in tax fraud cases.


Our Fraud and Compliance team includes partners from different practice groups and works closely with all practice groups within the firm. We are therefore experienced in following up all cases from A to Z: from prevention to treating files from the very start of an investigation up to a procedure before the Supreme Court.
