Maxime Vanderstraeten is an all-round public law expert, focusing on Belgian and EU public procurement law.

Maxime received his law degree magna cum laude from the University of Brussels (ULB) in 2010. He received the Ganshof van der Meersh Prize of the best student in public law.

During his studies, Maxime spent a semester at the University of Sussex (United Kingdom) as part of the Erasmus exchange programme. In 2011, he obtained an LL.M in European law magna cum laude from the College of Europe (Bruges).

Maxime was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 2011. He has been a teaching assistant in administrative law at the Saint-Louis University since 2011 and at the University of Brussels (ULB) since 2012.

Maxime acts for both tendering authorities and private (local and international) companies within all sectors of commerce and industry. He always strives to find a pragmatic solution to issues encountered at any stage of the tender process (from the drafting of the tender documents, through the award of the contract, to its performance). Although he believes in the benefits of conciliatory methods of dispute resolution, he is equally at home with hard-fought litigation.

Maxime combines his practical experience as a lawyer with the discipline of his academic roles in order to make public procurement an opportunity to buy or sell better – rather than a bureaucratic hurdle. His interest for public procurement goes beyond the intricate twists of the law; he is also curious about what is actually tendered and how the contract will add value to the clients’ business or public service and, ultimately, to society.

In addition to his activities in public procurement, Maxime also practices gambling law, mainly in a litigation role for private operators, particularly in regulatory disputes before the Council of State and the Constitutional Court.

Maxime regularly published articles related to his fields of interest, and is often invited as a speaker at specialised conferences and trainings.

Maxime joined Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick in 2017.
