Aimery de Schoutheete has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and in handling litigation before the Belgian courts, but also in other jurisdictions as well as arbitration proceedings (ICC and CEPANI). He has particular expertise in the fields of distribution, international sale of goods and commodities, manufacturing, chemicals, agribusiness and insurance as well as Congolese law. He is the co-founder and head of Liedekerke’s Africa desk.

Aimery also advises mainly corporate clients on labour and employment law, with a focus on company restructuring and transfer of undertakings. His practice encompasses such issues as employment termination, free-lance contracts, employment litigation, stock options, incentive plans, international law in relation to employment contracts and social security and Congolese employment law.

He is the author or co-author of several publications on distribution law and on employment law and he is the editor for general commercial law of the Revue de Droit Commercial.

Aimery holds a law degree (1983) as well as a degree in philosophy (1984) from the University of Louvain (UCL).

Aimery joined Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick in 1986 and became a Partner in 1995. He was Managing Partner of the firm from 2001 to 2010. He is currently Senior Partner of the firm.

  • Representation of an international hotel operator in proceedings regarding liability claims and regarding a management agreement in the context of the bankruptcy of a luxury hotel in Brussels.
  • Representation of a leading mining company in a major dispute (arbitration) with a European group regarding the ownership of the shares in a joint venture agreement in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Representation of a major European group in the sugar industry in a multi-million euro dispute regarding export levies.
  • Representation of a leading world insurance group in a dispute regarding a major liability claim (in excess of € 20 million) linked to “cash in transit” policies.Assisting a European Top 50 listed group in a major restructuring and collective lay-off in Belgium.
