Henk Verstraete
Henk Verstraete focuses on Belgian and international tax advisory, transactional and litigation work. This includes assisting clients in the corporate and financial sectors on a wide range of tax matters, including corporate reorganisations, public and private M&A, capital markets transactions, structured finance, and employee incentive plans.
Henk Verstraete became a member of the Brussels Bar within the firm of Loeff Claeys Verbeke (now Allen& Overy) in 1999. He worked as a lawyer with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP from April 2000 until November 2008. He joined Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick as a partner on 1 December 2008. Henk is also a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), the American Bar Association (ABA) and the International Bar Association (IBA).
After graduating magna cum laude from the Law School of the KULeuven in 1999, he obtained an LL.M. in Taxation at the New York University School of Law in 2003, on a Fulbright Scholarship and a Fellowship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation. He also studied at the Law School of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA.
Henk Verstraete has been a member of the Tax Law Institute of the KULeuven since 2000, where he has taught tax law and corporate tax. He currently teaches the course on "tax aspects of reorganisations". He is a visiting professor at the European Tax College (Universiteit van Tilburg-KULeuven), and a professor at the Fiscale Hogeschool Brussel (Tax School Brussels). Henk is frequently invited as a speaker and regularly publishes on tax-related topics.
